Recycle the City
Building Deconstruction | ReUse Stores | ReUsed Products

Building Deconstruction and Adaptive Reuse
In struggling urban centers where vacant housing and demolition has become the norm, building deconstruction (dismantlement of entire buildings), salvage (interior stripping),and reuse stores have created opportunities for job training, neighborhood development, and community education. This track will explore efforts that ensure the reclamation of reusable materials, preservation of unique architectural materials, and a source of high quality building materials to support rehabilitation and low-cost maintenance for homeowners.

- Creating a self-sustaining model for training, education, and material reclamation.
- Cost benefit analysis: will deconstruction work in your city?
- Value-added manufacturing: creating new products from salvaged materials.
- Successful strategies in re-use store design and management.
- Architectural integration of salvaged materials into building designs.
- Acquiring LEED credits for C&D waste diversion.
- Deconstruction and salvage as vehicles for youth job training, small business incubation, and neighborhood development.
