WORKSHOP TITLE:
ReUse Stores: a source of low cost building materials, a space for community engagement.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
ReUsed or reclaimed building materials can add something unique to a building project, support the preservation of existing homes, or provide a palette of options for creative architects or artists eager to innovate and create. ReUse stores can also generate revenues that enable community-based efforts, encourage the integration of architecturally unique materials, or create destination oriented spaces drawing people back to the inner city.
WORKSHOP PRESENTERS:
Sally Kamprath, ReHouse. ReHouse is a company located in Rochester, NY, removes, markets and sells, high quality, salvaged materials. Their 12,000 square foot inventory of salvaged items for sale to the general public includes a wide variety of items such as doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, wood trim, hardware, cabinets, and antiques. The retail location has been operating for 3.5 years using a self-developed sophisticated inventory system and numerous community partners that assist in enabling their effort.
Caesandra Seawell, Buffalo ReUse. The ReSource, Buffalo’s education and retail destination, is in its first year of operation. They are working diligently not only to provide a source of quality, low-cost building materials for the community, but also create community through store activities, workshops, and entertainment.
