Policy & Implementation

It’s not enough to just have a good idea, for the power is not achieved until that idea becomes reality. This track will examine strategies for initiating and implementing new programs, organizations, and efforts that will enable positive changes in urban communities. Special attention will be given to models that encourage collaboration, leverage private and public funding, and connect the dots to ensure that resources are matched with emerging needs.

  • Starting a not-for-profit: challenges and opportunities
  • Navigating political barriers
  • Tapping into the resources, expertise, and research findings of colleges and universities
  • Funding your idea and leveraging funds from both public and private sources
  • Cultivating collaborations with universities, grassroots organizations, local governments, schools, contractors, and block clubs to ensure success
  • Volunteer recruitment strategies to get started on a shoe string, build capacity, and expand
